Award-winning jazz pianist Nial Djuliarso was born on February 5th, 1981 in Jakarta, Indonesia. He lived in the United States for 20 years. He received his bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of Music (2004), Artist Diploma from Juilliard School (2006), and Master’s of Music Degree from New York University (2018). He has played and studied with Kenny Barron, Richie Vitale, Wynton Marsalis, Ernestine Anderson, Benny Golson, Rufus Reid, Peter Bernstein, Billy Drummond, Alan Broadbent, Danilo Perez, among others. Nial has performed all over the world, including Carnegie Hall (Weill Recital Hall), Kennedy Center, Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Rhythm Alley (Taipei). For his performance at Motion Blue Jakarta Nial will be accompanied by Filipus Cahyadi on drums, Ferdinand Chandra on bass, and a special guest star saxophonist, Nick Hempton. 

Nick Hempton is an alto and tenor saxophonist, composer, and bandleader producing new music in the modern/mainstream tradition. Calling New York home since 2004, he headlines clubs throughout the city, as well as concert halls and festivals around the world. Influenced by the greats of the instrument– Dexter Gordon, Sonny Stitt, Cannonball Adderley– and informed by a youth misspent playing Rhythm & Blues and Ska in his native Australia, Hempton's jazz is original, approachable, and always swinging.
