Jason Limanjaya Trio (J.L.T.) is a jazz piano trio ensemble comprising three young jazz musicians from Bandung, Indonesia, namely Jason Limanjaya (piano), Ezra Manuhutu (acoustic/electric bass) and David Halim (drums). 

The group was formed in 2018 after a series of jamming sessions at Lab Jazz Aru in Bandung, which had previously been a training and meeting ground for future jazz musicians under the tutelage of Imam Pras and Rudy ‘Aru’ Zulkarnaen. Jason and Ezra had previously been playing together in another jazz trio group named New Equinox, which had recorded two indie albums and performed at many venues, most notably at No Black Tie KL, Malaysia (2017). They met David, who just started his undergraduate music study at Universitas Pelita Harapan Jakarta at one of the jam sessions and the musical connection convinced Jason to start the trio. 

All three members share similar taste and musical background in 20th century American music (jazz standards, bebop, hard bop, post-bop, bossa nova and blues among others). However, J.L.T. aim to explore different musical palettes in their endeavor to innovate novelties in their original compositions, primarily the complex imagination and technical prowess of 21st century modern jazz (eg. Brad Mehldau Trio, Avishai Cohen Trio, Tigran Hamasyan Trio) as well as the wondrous elements of Indonesian music (eg. the Balinese gamelan rhythmic patterns, the traditional pelog pentatonic scale and classic folk songs). On the other hand, J.L.T. is also versatile enough to work on more familiar materials in a more conventional straight ahead setup with few twists and turns, such as during their series of Christmas Jazz shows in December 2018 and the thematic ‘Disney and Other Favorite Things’ show in April 2019. 

Looking forward, J.L.T. hopes to produce enough original materials in the form of an album, that not only balance the familiar sounds and the uncharted territories, but also inspire and influence the public to appreciate and fall in love with the magical art form of jazz piano trio. For their special performance at Motion Blue Jakarta talented songstress, Natasya Elvira will join on vocals, and Andika Putra will replace Ezra on bass.
